Life at the Bottom of the Blender

At age 23 Naomi flew from Australia to New York to make it

on Broadway as a musical theatre actor. In the process she

accidentally ended up working for the New York Mafia, performed

as a dancing plate in the musical ‘Beauty and the Beast’, married a

chef, and opened the famous Hartsyard restaurant in Sydney, lived

on a tropical island in Fiji and, after discovering

her daughter had autism and her husband had ADHD, she lost

all her hair to stress, and then

embraced water polo. Proving that

it’s never too late to make the most out of your life.

Written with warmth and passion, not to mention an enormous dose of quirky humour, Naomi’s book, Life at the Bottom of the Blender outlines her roller-coaster life that has seen her cheered by audiences, spat on by rude restaurant patrons and living in buildings where dead bodies were discovered. On the ride, she has encountered a whole cast of incredible people from New York to LA and Fiji to Umina Beach, while pursuing her dreams and making the most out of life.

Naomi’s story is a very amusingly told tale of fortune and misfortune, and resilience and persistence. It’s populated by unusual and larger-than-life characters, and ironically, but charmingly, the discovery that of all the cities she has lived and worked in, Umina on Sydney’s Central Coast is the one that makes her the happiest.

"Absolutely LOVED this book! It’s a hilarious insight into Naomi’s absolutely incredible life, and how she has dealt with some serious setbacks like an absolute champion, I could not put this book down!"

"I snort-laughed and cried while reading it."

"And it was the opinion of not 1, not 2 but 3 different friends of mine who’ve churned through the book since our Umina launch on Sunday."
Mum: "I’ve skim read your book darling. I’ve always said you’ve got a vivid style."
Me: That’s it? Thank you mum."
Mum: "Well, I have heard most of it before. You did leave out some of the funny bits."
"Thanks for being so raw, honest & brave. You made me laugh & cry. Thanks for talking so honestly about what it’s like to get so close to the edge. All the edges."
"You write extremely well & it’s highly entertaining."
"It is so good! I can’t wait to read what Naomi Hart writes next!"

"I devoured your book. Wow. What an incredible voice you have. I was gripped. Please, please, please write another."

"I hear you loud and clear about needing a diagnosis and needing to make changes that suit her. I love how vulnerable you were about yourself, that made me cry my little eyes out.

Thank you for your honesty, it was what I needed to read without even knowing it. This book will change people's lives I am telling you now."

Mum: "Margaret said to tell you that Angus and Robertson in city had sold out of your book and have ordered 10 more."

"Hi Naomi, just finished your book. Epic. Just epic! What an awesome read. You've got such great analogies and depth for describing events. And when there are so many to describe you did it so well throughout the book! Thanks for sharing your story and hope life is well up in Umina! Big hugs."
"I’d been in a reading slump and couldn’t find a book to grab me until I picked up this beauty. Laughed, cried- loved it!"
